Lampang
While the journey from Sukhothai to Lampang may be quite uneventful, prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking beauty of Wat Phiphat Mongkhon, a Buddhist temple which has been under construction for the past four decades. You will be astounded by the number and the beauty of the colourful temples that were built on that site. We were absolutely blown away. The visit is a welcomed break before proceeding to Lampang.
In Lampang, the main attraction is the Wat Phra That Lampang Luang temple. It is one of the most highly admired temples in Thailand. Pilgrims come here to pray, make wishes and meditate. You can witness the procession of devotees circling the central pagoda holding burning incense in front of themselves. After visiting the temple grounds, explore the city on board of one of the horse carriages before spending the night.
The next day, on the way to Chiang Rai, enjoy an interlude at the lake Kwan Phayao. Stretch your legs and relax along the promenade before heading for Chiang Rai.
Chiang Rai
Nestled in the northern reaches of Thailand, Chang Rai’s main attraction is the resplendent White Temple. Conceived by the visionary artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, this architectural gem captivates with its beauty. While exploring Chiang Rai, do not miss the iconic Clock Tower which was designed by the same artist. Continue exploring the area by visiting the Black House (Baan Dam) and the Blue Temple
From Chiang Rai venture forth to the Long Neck Tribe Village and the Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar converge in cultural diversity. Immerse yourselves in the bustling energy of the local market where Thai and Burmese traders barter cheap merchandise.
