Ica

Ica

July 25, 2019

We arrived in Ica last night. After a cold night, it is now 26 degrees and sunny. The traffic is really chaotic, a little bit like in India but without the cows, hundreds of tuk tuk peeping and fighting for business not abiding by any traffic rules, which makes crossing the road like playing Russian roulette.

There are not a lot of tourist attractions around here, but the main one is spectacular. It is the Church of Luren, which was badly damaged during the 2007 earthquake. Dozens of people lost their life and many more were injured. As opposed to the cathedral, which is still in a state of disrepair, the church has been beautifully restored and has a memorial dedicated to those who lost their lives.

We then walked over to the Plaza de Arma and enjoyed watching local families gathering under the sun. This reminded me a lot of other countries in Latin America where locals gather on the central place to socialise.

We are looking forward to leaving the dust and noise of Ica to spend a night at Huacachina to see an oasis in the desert of Tacama.
