June 12, 2024
After visiting Ho Chi Minh City, escape to Da Lat for a cooler climate. Located at 1,500 meters altitude, Da Lat feels like a European town. The cooler temperatures make it a pleasant retreat due to its mountainous terrain.
Many resorts line the way from the airport, transforming the earlier French village-like atmosphere. The main attractions in Da Lat include Bao Dai’s Summer Palace, the Truc Lam Zen Monastery, Hang Nga Crazy House, and the XQ Embroidery workshop.
The Bao Dai Summer Palace sits on a hill just outside the town center. Bao Dai, the last Emperor of Vietnam, left it preserved exactly as it was in 1954. This art deco masterpiece is a major city attraction.
Next, visit the Truc Lam Zen Monastery, surrounded by pine forests. You can reach it by cable car, which descends 300 meters. It is a wonderful nd peaceful place surrounded by forests.
Hang Nga Crazy House, or Hang Nga Guesthouse, contrasts sharply with Da Lat’s French colonial villas. This avant-garde guesthouse features spiral staircases, sculptural bedrooms, bright colors, narrow bridges, and hidden nooks. It is incredible. It feels like a never ending house.
Proceed to the XQ Embroidery workshop and art gallery. Learn about Vietnamese art history and admire handmade embroidery masterpieces. This workshop is the highlight of the journey to Da Lat. The workers’ incredible craftsmanship and the stunning exhibition are truly memorable. It should not be missed.
For more history, visit Xuan Huong Lake and Da Lat Railway Station. Here, you can taste chocolates and Vietnamese coffee, adding a delightful end to your visit.
