Huacachina oasis

After the craziness of Ica city centre, arriving at the oasis of Huacachina was quite a change. Sand dunes as high as mountains are dotted with beach buggies, snowboarders and skiers. You can see the footprints of people brave enough to climb on foot under the hot sun. At the centre of the dunes there is the oasis surrounded by lush palm trees. We could honestly be in the middle of the Gobi desert. There are tourists from all over the world here clearly to enjoy the activities that the sand dunes provide. They keep the small hotels, restaurants and gift shops in healthy business.
It is a weird place, probably has once been a quiet and serene place to escape to. However, the secret is out and it is a little gem of a holiday destination for those wanting something different. People probably only stay for a day or two and then move on to more historical sites, but we are glad we came for just one night to rest and recharge our batteries.
