Paracas nature reserve

Paracas nature reserve

July 24, 2019

After a four hour bus journey, we arrived in Paracas. This area attracts tourists who come to visit the nearby islands and wildlife of Ballestas and the nature reserve with its dramatic landscapes and cliffs.

It has a great history with many Inca artefacts being excavated over many years. Most of those artefacts are in the Larco museum in Lima.

The name “Paracas” means Sand Rain in Quechua. During our journey within the nature reserve we experienced the sand rain, which you can see in one of the photographs in the gallery. Luckily we were already on the bus.

This morning we were due to go to the Ballestas Islands, but it was cancelled due to the rough seas. Although a bit disappointed and tired due to the early start for the boat ride, we are spending a leisurely morning preparing for our next destination along the Gringo Trail, which will be Ica.
